A Message From Dr. Bruce Bedrick

Each year in the United States alone, over three billion prescriptions are filled! That's more than 10 prescriptions for every man, woman, and child! While there are certainly instances where medication is necessary, it is the opinion of many doctors from all professional backgrounds that this over-reliance on medications - in combination with a toxic environment, sedentary lifestyles, poor food choices, and excessive stress from fast-paced lives - is diminishing the overall health of society.
Modern technology has greatly improved our response to medical emergencies and reduced our exposure to many toxic organisms. However, technology and modern life has brought its own share of problems. Air pollution and chemicals and pesticides in our foods are just a few examples of how toxic our world has become. Chronic pain disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivity, headaches and auto-immune diseases are just a sampling of the illnesses that have increased dramatically in the past century as a result.
I believe the lack of balance between our use of medications and the use of natural remedies will have serious consequences in our personal health if we continue on our current path. Although, we cannot isolate ourselves from all toxins and stress, we can take steps to reduce our exposure to toxins, learn new ways to handle stress, reduce our reliance on medications and increase our use of natural therapeutic remedies.
All of us have some predisposition to illness. I believe that we can use modern technologies such as laboratory testing to identify functional problems, and treat these problems with natural therapies to prevent them from developing into more serious illnesses.
