Common Conditions
- Common Conditions
- Back pain or sciatica
- Headaches
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Rotator cuff or shoulder pain
- Knee, hip or foot problems
- Wrist or hand pain or tennis elbow
Many of these conditions have one of the following important factors in common: they are often a result of injury, overuse, surgical repair, or immobilization to the body part.
Soft tissues injure, degrade or change in three vital ways:
- Acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
- Long term chronic accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
- Hypoxia (lack of oxygen) from immobilization and increased waste build-up in tissue
Each factor can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds to and ties down other tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons results in tendonitis, and nerves become trapped. As a result, the range of motion decreases, loss of strength and pain can occur. If a nerve becomes trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
